Akram Khan

Akram Khan has created a substantial body of critically acclaimed work that ranges from classical and modern solos, to artist collaborations and company productions. It is foremost innovative dance companies in the world.

Inspired by Akram Khan's early training in the Indian classical dance form, Kathak and the hybrid language that originally emerged when Akram's kathak encountered contemporary dance. The dance language in each production is rooted in Akram Khan's classical kathak and modern dance training and his fascination with storytelling.

A vision began to form, fueled by the desire to learn and create through collaboration with the very best people across all disciplines in the art. Embracing the artistic vision that both respects and challenges both Indian kathak and contemporary dance forms.

The rules were simple: take risks, think big and daring, explore the unfamiliar, avoid compromise and tell stories through dance that are compelling and relevant, with artistic integrity. The work continually evolves to communicate ideas that are intelligent, courageous and new, bringing international acclaim and recognition as well as artist and commercial success.

Shobana Jeyasingh

Shobana Jeyasingh is highly acclaimed for her pioneering work in choreography hallmarked by excellence and high quality. She is trained in Indian classical form of Bharatanatyam, however, fusing it with contemporary dance, she made it her image: cosmopolitan, urbane yet traditional. She is one of the few successful woman leaders in the field of dance and choreography.

The company is rooted in a vision of societies that are culturally coherent in new and unexpected ways and in a firm belief in the intellectual as well as the physical power of dance. Her work is powerful, precise, dynamic, sophisticated and accessible.

Mavin Khoo

Mavin is a dancer of the Indian classical style, Bharatanatyam. He has also trained in Cunningham technique along with classical ballet.

He has collaborated and danced with some of the major choreographers of today including, Akram Khan, Wayne McGregor and Christopher Bannerman. He has danced as a guest artist with Shobana Jeyasingh Dance Company, Ballet de Zaragoza, Ballet Regensburg and Sankalapam.

Today, he stands as one of the leading international male solo Bharatanatyam performers dancing in India and all around the world. He creates new work that challenges notions of gender and ambiguity. He is one of the few leading performers today that has developed academia alongside practice in performance.
