Costumes

This year for the final major project, I have taken up a role that I am very familiar with, which is Costume incharge. I have been working on the costume team for my dance company for a little over a year now and I enjoy being a part of the team as I feel it is important for the performers to look good on stage and also be comfortable in what they are wearing.

I always try to give them costumes that are easy to move in and also those that serve the purpose of the act. I believe that budgeting is very important when it comes to costumes as you can get carried away in terms of look and spend more than you need to.

We first started off by using measuring tapes and measured all the dancers for their shirt and trouser sizes for the army clothing. There were a few apprehensions from the dancers about wearing army clothes as they were not too sure if they would be able to dance in them or not. Despite those apprehensions, we still ordered army clothing from a army surplus store in Rochester, however, they did not look nice on stage and also it was very uncomfortable for the dancers to dance wearing those trousers and therefore, we returned the trousers only and decided to keep the shirts and wear black track suit bottoms under them as they were easier to dance in and were quite cheap.

This is a word document on the measurements we recorded for all the dancers and it also  has the costumes we initially ordered for our piece.
